One thing that I do love, as opposed to most, is the time to myself that I have when I commute. I guess you could argue that I don’t necessarily have the time to myself, but it’s the forced emancipation from the to-do’s as I sit in the underground without a signal on my phone. I sit there reading, listening to music, or casual people watching. It’s quite an interesting time as everyone is in a somber mood just mentally preparing for the day ahead. When you’re on the same hustle for many years or decades of commuting experience, it can be tiring to take that route to work. I’ve been having FaceTime conversations with some of my friends in the US and they think my love for the commute is crazy. One of them asked me as far as drafting out a few things for how to enjoy your daily commute. So I put together a list to show you how to enjoy your daily routine!
Practice Mindfulness
Monday mornings are usually difficult to get my mind flowing and going. I especially find my commute to feel a bit tedious at that time. To get my mindset ready for the working day ahead and the rest of the week, I like to practice mindfulness and do a meditative breathing exercise. It might sound like something outlandish, but if you can come out of your commute with a fresh and happy mind then it’s how to enjoy your daily commute!
Find Purpose
Lots of people find their commute a waste of time. One of my friends has asked for remote working options many times because he thinks his commute takes away from completing important tasks. I suggested he try to enjoy a productive commute instead. Get through your emails, organize your day, prep meeting notes. You can read more over on how to have a productive commute blog post!
Have the Right Shoes
I usually wear heels in the office and that’s not a fun pair of shoes to commute in. If you’re wondering how to enjoy your daily commute, then make sure you’re doing it in the right shoes! Nothing is worse than walking in with blisters and sore feet. Bagllerina has proved to be nothing short of exceptional. They are a comfortable pair of high-quality flats that fold up and fit inside the adorable little leather pouch you receive them in. It’s like walking on clouds!
Own the Side Hustle
Similar to being productive, if you’ve got a long commute why not own your side hustle at the same time? If I have a long commute ahead of me, I type up my blog post in a note on my iPhone. This leaves me with just editing, shooting, and then posting the blog post! Just make a list of the tasks for your side hustle that you can do on your commute and get working through them!
Catch Up With Friends
When I first moved to London, my morning commute was a 30 minutes bus ride. I used to use that time to text my friends and family. If you want to go the extra mile, have some photos ready of your week and send it over to them with captions of what each photo is! A lot of my American friends love getting personalized details into my daily life in London.
The Playlist
Have you ever just danced it out? I used to put on a good song and dance it out in my dorm in graduate school when I was feeling especially stressed. If you’re looking for an upbeat version of how to enjoy your daily routine, then play some good music! If you’re into listening to and trying out different types of music from around the world then subscribe to my Spotify playlist!
Change It Up
It might not seem like how to enjoy your daily routine, but it does help. The main thing people get annoyed with is the mundane routine of taking the daily commute. I like to map out 3 different commutes to work. Sometimes I’ll even get off at the station or stop before mine and walk the rest! Changing up your daily commute really can help you enjoy it more!
Here just a few ideas on how to enjoy your daily commute. Do you have any suggestions you would add?
