My brother needed a bit of help dressing up for an event one day. It was one one of those daytime events that he needed to make a good impression, look put together, and didn’t want to come off as overdoing it. He needed a business casual outfit that helped him look put together yet still made it memorable in some way. When it comes to networking events, especially when they’re during the day or after work, I try to go for a business casual outfit because it allows me to be and feel comfortable. I also don’t want to come off as trying too hard. I was told by a career advisor at St. Andrews that when networking make yourself memorable physically and emotionally. Physically by wearing something that intrigues someone and emotionally by sharing something about yourself.

When it came to my brother’s business casual outfit, I wanted to make it memorable by adding a red tie. If you notice that the rest of the outfit is very simple and basically all classics. The red tie truly pops even though you don’t see much of it. It’s not everyday that you see someone wear a shiny red tie to a daytime event now, do you? Either way, I know my brother has capacity to come up with a very strong emotional connection to make himself memorable at any event.

This is interesting networking advice isn’t it? What is your favorite networking tip or outfit to wear at networking events? Do you prefer to go business casual too?
