Perfecting a Skincare Routine

Something I struggled with in recent years was understanding the importance of skincare. After a series of dermalogical problems last year, I finally realized that taking the time to care for your skin is the best way to treat yourself. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and if you take good care of it then it can help prevent a multitude of problems in the future. I continuously change up my routine as I am introduced to new products or lines that work better for my skin along with the seasons and climate. My skincare focuses on hydrating my skin in the winter whereas my in the summer I do my best to contain excess oil production. This blog post will help you perfect your skincare routine by providing you with a template of what you should be doing. You can fill it in with your preferred products that you deem are the best for your skincare routine. I’ll be sharing the base products in this blog post that are safe for any skin type. These are all great starter products as they’re aimed for sensitive skin. Let’s get started with skincare routine, shall we?

Cleanse

I naturally have very delicate skin that is sensitive to pigmentation and any harsh ingredients. On top of that, extreme weather conditions also has a major toll. I want something that is extra delicate for my skin when it comes to cleaning, but also slightly hydrating as dry skin tends to make your skintone uneven. I prefer to use the Ultra Facial Cleanser in the summer because it helps with cleaning excess oil and controlling the sedum around my nose. For acne breakouts, I reach for the Boscia Clear Complexion Cleanser that has almost a lotion like formula ensuring your skin is clean and hydrated. City living is always tough on your skin. When I’m traveling to high frequency cities like Mumbai, Beijing, or even desert cities like Dubai, I prefer to use a cleanser that neutralizes surface pollutants like Paula’s Choice Defense Hydrating Gel to Cream Cleanser.

Exfoliate

I think exfoliating is the one thing that most people skip over when it comes to perfecting a skincare routine. Just like how we need to trim our nails because of the excess, we need to remove the excess skincells that are actually dead. If you don’t remove them, then you’re just keeping those particles on your skin and not letting your natural skin barrier do it’s magic! I definitely know when I need to exfoliate when my makeup doesn’t apply as well. You can exfoliate your skin anywhere between once a week to every other day. I prefer to exfoliate every few days with the Fresh Umbrian Clay Pore Purifying Face Exfoliator and use the Fresh Sugar Lip Polish on my lips once a week. You’ll see your face naturally glow and brighten and yor lips stay naturally hydrating as you use these products overtime.

Face Mask

If you’re going to mask, then I recommend it doing it here! Face masks are my favorite pastime and you can get so many different types that address different skin concerns. I usually do two face masks a week. I will rotate between the Origins Hello Calm Hydrating Face Mask if my battling dry skin, Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Mask if my skin is looking dull, and the Caudalie Instant Detox Mask if I need a deep clean as it includes pink clay.

Tone

Toning my skin is something I only recently incorporated into my daily skincare routine for good reason. Toning allows your pores to close after you wash your face to penetrating immurities. This step alone has gotten me through my worst skin problems and in turn revitalized my skin. I use Cortas Rosewater as it is made of 100% rose petals and water only. There are no extra extracts or preservatives. You can add it to a spray bottle or simply apply some to a cotton pad and apply all over your face and neck. I’ve written a blog post about all the different ways I use rosewater here.

Serum

Your skin will feel incredibly clean after using the Cortas Rosewater as a toner. Since your skin is at its barest moment, I like to top it off with a serum to feed my skin with super powerful ingredients directly into the skin. If you were going to splurge anywhere in your skincare routine then I would make it here. The cleaner the serum, the most effective it will be! This is where you can target a specific skincare concern. You can choose between anti-aging, brightening, hydrating, the possibilities are endless! I use this The Inkey List Serum in the winter when my skin is often dry, the Milk’s Melatonin Overnight Serum right before my period starts since that’s when my skin is most acne prone and in the summer when my skin is sun damaged.

Moisturize

You should still moisturize even if you have oily skin. Just like how you get thirsy, your skin does too. Keeping it hydrated with a moisturizer will reduce the chances or skin problems along with preventing blemishes or hyperpigmentation. No matter your skin type, the Farmacy Daily Greens Moisturizer soothes your skin with soybean extract and Vitamin E. I was impressed by how soft my skin was after using it for just a few days. It also includes SPF25 ensuring you’re getting the sun protection you need Then top off with my eyes using this Retinol Eyecream for added moisture and beat dark circles.
