a journey into jewelry
When I was younger, I was gifted a pair of gold earrings from my grandparents. For no particular reason really. It was one of those presents that I just “needed” as an Indian girl growing up in an Indian household. What I wore almost was a representation of how my family was doing. So I wore those earrings. Never took them off even when I slept. As I continued through elementary school, my taste started to evolve into more simpler versions of gold earrings (they looked incredibly Indian, by the way). But come middle school I decided to take my own route.
My parents gave me $10 to use at the mall with my friend, Clare. Clare and I perused Claire’s, naturally. The place where pre-teens hung out and found their personality through layering questionable jewelry made of faux metal and colorful strings. I got myself a nice fake pair of pearl studs. And I wore those everyday of middle school until they were so worn and disgusting that my mother forced me to get rid of them.
That started my journey into jewelry. Today, my jewelry collection is limited though abundant in quality and not the Claire’s earrings stock-like. With age I went from wearing solely silver to rose gold then white gold.

So it only seemed fitting to bring out my once-gifted Skagen watch when this beautiful silver-based bracelet was sent over to me. Remember the silver age? That was when I was in college. I only wore silver and pearls with silver hints. So I set aside my standard simple gold ring and assortment of little gold studs and went along with crafting an outfit around the beaut of a cuff.
