Maybe it’s the weather, the gloominess mixed with the cold and I’m wanting nothing but a few cuddles and a new novel to crack the spine of. Or maybe it’s the fact that this time of the year is for close friends and family, and though I know I’m not missing any of that, it’s still hard to be apart from my family this time of the year. And though I know we will see each other soon, it’s the association of Christmas with loved ones that make it just all the more appealing. Don’t you worry, as I will not be spending the holidays alone, but it’s a bit strange to be away even though it’s not my very first.

This week I experienced something so different, so emotionally distinctive that I couldn’t quite pin-point. My younger brother and I have been texting quite a bit recently as he starts a new, very exciting, and quite challenging chapter in his life. He finds that debriefing with me has helped him compartmentalize what he has learned and re-define his goal to fit with what he wants to achieve. Though, I found myself almost trying to ignore his messages, as his name on my display screen literally made my heart hurt. A sudden feeling I had never experienced before.

Many of you may know that I have been the adventurer always. One that has crossed nebulous borders, hitch-hiked and slept in tents. The contrary to what I give off here. So this separation from my brother, or family, is not a foreign feeling. So yes, this week was a bit strange in that respect. Instead, I embraced his messages and thought about the opportunity I have been given to grow with him as he pursues his career and paves his path to success. There is something to love, nourish and grow in everything and everyone.
