Every January instead of limiting myself to the words and statements of resolutions, I come up with words to follow through the year. Not just simple words, but themes to guide me through decision-making processes. And so this year, I present to you three words that I hope will serve as a motivation for all that 2015 has in store for me, and us.
embrace
The last several, several years I’ve focused on myself professionally. As most of you know, the blog is a creative escape from my everyday life that is quite contrary to the artistic life that I portray here. I’m not one who doesn’t enjoy my everyday professional tasks, but without trying to sound dogmatic I find embracing both a creative and analytical lifestyle is essential to feel fully endorsed in the world. I’m a bit inhibitive for that reason. Moving to London, I realized I’m not very open or personal. I favor the firm handshake over a hug or warm embrace. I want to set myself apart from that serious, suit-laden self on my off days and moments.
network
Though the complete contrary to my first word, as you may know, I’m quite new to this professional field that I’m part of. It was only introduced to me some 18 months ago and though I think I understand the intricacies of the field, much learnt through my job search, I don’t know many people. I’ve found, through fashion week, that networking is king. Connections bring a wealth of opportunities and experiences and life-long friends or mentors. I want to grow and blend within this industry and establish a positive reputation.
save
Being a blogger, it is quite easy to fall into the retail trap. We want the next best thing without realizing that 6-months from now, no one will be wearing it and instead will tarnish and rust in the back of your closet. As you can probably tell from the outfits I share on c&é, I’m one who enjoys classic pieces and would rather save on those “hyped” pieces. I think most, if not all, of us can relate to this. Now that I’m in the peak of my twenties, living in a dynamic and expensive city, it’s important to think about saving and invest in the future.
some changes to c&é
My words and resolutions for 2015 seem quite ambitious. They are distorting me in ways that are foreign to me. I am bound to run into walls where I will need to force myself to overcome challenges and obstacles. I’m a perfectionist and an enthusiast and an opportunist.
With that said, c&é will be seeing lots of physical and content changes. I am happy to announce that I hired on some help! My blog has inevitably gone global now that I am abroad and that means there is boundless information and content that is 100% unique.
For this to be successful, I will be going from blogging five days to three days a week. For those of you who have been alongside c&é since it’s inception may have seen the content transformation gradually taking place over the last eight months. And as it does make me nervous to significantly cut the amount of blogging I’m doing, I am excited to share more multi-dimensional posts! I have a collection of incredible content lined up for you and as always, I will continue to paint my narrative through this virtual treehouse that is c&é. Thank you for all the support and I will see you Monday. xo. -S
