Two Lunch Spots in London

Days are super long at the moment and you probably already know that. Just as I get used to summer’s days, I feel as if autumn and winter creep up so easily. Summer has been notoriously warm and quite uncomfortable at times, which had me seeking a quite afternoon somewhere. With that said I’ve been hitting up lunch spots in London because afternoons feel a little extra long at times. I came across two lunch spots in London that not only caters to all your gastronomical needs, but also if you’re someone who usually has working lunches like I do. Meetings, catch ups or a little lunch treat for a friend or colleague. These two lunch spots in London give you just that plus more!

On a little quiet bit of Soho, which is very rare to find, you’ll see a little inviting door. Through the doors and into a parlor and subsequently a restaurant. The French brasserie style ambiance is perfect for a little luxurious afternoon delight. Quiet enough to host a meeting, cocktails with a flair if you’re looking for fun and all locally sourced ingredients offered in traditional French fare. it checks all the boxes!

The lunch menu is available all afternoon from 12 to 5pm making it the perfect place to either have a slow afternoon or an early dinner. The menu covers everything from lighter dishes like salads and sandwiches to proper entrees of truffle roast chicken and bavette steak.

What We Ordered

• DRINKS - We went for the ‘suze highball’ since we craved for something fruity and the ‘brandy house punch’ since I’m always curious about in-house specialities. If you’re looking for something a little lighter then go for ‘the french lead’ or ‘romilly’.
• STARTERS - We chose one thing from each starter list. If you’re looking for something lighter, perhaps stick with starters and/or share a main. We went for the croquettes with saffron aioli {comfort food at its best}, steak tartare {easily the best I’ve had in London} and the scallop with lemon and samphire {so fresh and light}.
• MAINS - The truffle roast chicken is an ideal entree to share if you’re up for it. If you’re feeling a bit of seafood, the roast turbot was so lovely in its spinach veloute and cucumber.
• DESSERT - I never share a dessert and glad I didn’t with the strawberry souffle.

It’s hard to come by good Mexican food in London that meets your needs. Cantina Laredo sits in the centre of the city in Covent Garden and is quite inconspicuous from the outside. You wouldn’t think the they have a vast guacamole menu that would make anyone want to visit. You can either going in for a cheeky drink {or non-alcoholic} and guacamole fix or just for a few sharing dishes for lunch.

What We Ordered

• DRINKS - I went for the ‘Can I Get a Jal’o’ as it tickled my interest for something fresh and spicy. The kick was subtle and so good. If you’re looking for a little something different, go for the ‘thanks a bunch’ for a more milky cocktail or ‘just chillin’ for a bit of floral.
• STARTERS - We obviously went for the guacamole, but with something non-traditional. The Guacamole con congrejo is topped with soft crab and a bit of smokiness through some peppers. Paired perfectly with hot tortilla chips of course.
• SMALL PLATES - We decided to just get a few small plates of things and went for the pork belly tacos with a generous hit of pork crackling on top. Second was the yellowtail tiradito that was spicy and refreshing and the perfect ceviche. Last was the Langostine that was grilled and packed a good amount of flavor.
• DESSERT - The choices were limited, but we gave the churros a chance. They were light and fluffy like clouds and paired ideally with the peppered chocolate sauce!
